The Epic Journey – Lace Wrap for Mum

April 24, 2009 at 1:48 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , )

With mother’s day approaching I decided this year I wanted to do something really special for my mother, who has helped me tremendously over the last 12 months. I recently discovered a new found obsession with knitted lace. Oh so pretty, but looks so difficult. I’m not possibly good enough to do that…. Or am I crazy enough? I think I am crazy enough. So whilst pattern surfing on ravelry I came across the Falling Leaves Wrap by Dory Brown and fell in love. I just needed the perfect yarn…. I soon found it at my LYS, araucania ranco solid in teal. Perfecto!

Now that week I had injured my back badly and was in a lot of pain. So loaded with pain killers and feeling sorry for myself I rushed home to cast on, throwing caution to the wind and diving in head first.  After the first few repeats, the pattern became very easy to work, and it began to grow at a nice pace. WOW! I was knitting PROPER LACE!

So after a few weeks i was finally ready for casting off and blocking. And without further ado, the photos:

Blocking is amazing. while it was a huge pain in the bum, the whole piece changes when it’s done. I couldn’t beleive it. Magic!!

Yum, new yarns!!

July 25, 2008 at 12:55 am (Uncategorized) ()

Recently I have had some very yummy mail. First I got my order of 100purewool 3ply worsted in aqua and crudo all the way from Uruguay:

And then I received some yarn from a secret santa Christmas in July yarn swap I was involved in:

Double yum!

Hopefully I get time to get busy with them soon, the wedding planning is starting to eat into my crafting time waaaaaaay too much!

this is basically an experiment to see if I can blog from the iPod. Its been a while since I last wrote a post but I have been busy. I made these crochet longies for a friends daughter. The dyeing was me too. Lots of fun. The pattern is so fantastic I have made some for T as well… Stay tuned, more on that later!

Late Night Dying Adventure

May 3, 2008 at 2:32 pm (miscellaneous) (, , , )

So it’s 11pm, house is quiet, nothing is on tv, you had too much coffee to go to sleep yet and none of your WIPs are holding your attention. What do you do?

Pour yourself a vodka and orange and do a dye up naturally!

I had 150g of Cleckheaton Machinewash Crepe 8ply sitting in the stash that I had bought on sale weeks ago and it was just crying out to be dyed. I deliberated for about 20 minutes as to what colours I should go with. I initally thought purples, but I couldn’t mix the right shade for the moment so I tipped it out and went back to good old yellow. This time, a pale, more lemon yellow, accompanied by lime and white. Very pleased with results.

Not sure what I’ll use it for yet. But I’m very much leaning towards socks.

I’m still here!

February 11, 2008 at 12:42 pm (Uncategorized)

I’m here. Just been having a lot of issues. Computer issues mainly. Upgrading to VISTA was a pain.

Here is my current WIP, more ribbed longies. However, I fear I am about to run out of wool! I might have to go as far as I can, then add a black cuff. Then frog back the other leg (YIKES! scary!) and add balck to the other one too!

And my sewing machine is STILL not fixed!

Speedbumps…

January 30, 2008 at 1:42 pm (Uncategorized)

You see, the problem with machinery is that it tends to break, and leave you very sad. Something is up with my machine. It’s trying to devour everything I try to sew. I have tried lots of stuff from the manual to try to fix it, but now I’m just frustrated.

I have however, been knitting and crocheting again. I seem to go through periods of really ho humness, and then WHAM! I get huge gusto and finish a project super quickly.  I still need to sew in some ends but I should have some pictures up soon. I also went digging and found this really nice super bulky yarn I forgot I had that was begging me to crochet it. I have been winging it without a pattern, with interesting results and much unraveling…But I’m liking where it’s going.

So at least one disaster has produced inspiration elsewhere.

Finding Time…

January 15, 2008 at 10:29 am (Uncategorized)

Oh dear, all of a sudden I have things I need to make and no time…On my list I have:

  • Something for T’s 1st birthday present
  • T’s 2nd pair of ribbed shorties
  • Bib’s for friends Bub
  • Bag for friend’s 3 yr old (both are belated Christmas presents)
  • Organise and make T’s cake on the weekend
  • Something for the EB Fat Quarter challenge

Last week I had alot of time for sewing, but it seems now I have taken a break over the weekend, I can’t get 5 minutes in for it!
